What the match % means
The match % measures similarity, not the likely outcome of your matter. It combines five signals you can see on every result:
- Facts (40%): how close the decision's facts are to yours.
- Issues (30%): shared legal issues.
- Statutes (15%): the same statute sections.
- Jurisdiction (10%): same state first, then federal, then other states.
- Recency (5%): newer decisions score a little higher.
In an AI search, Claude also reads each top candidate next to your matter, and its similarity rating counts for half of the match. A decision a later court overruled drops by a fifth and keeps its red warning, so you still see it.
Use Adjust ranking weights on the results page to re-rank without spending AI credits. Scores of 60–85% usually mean a strong analogue; 100% would mean identical facts, which almost never happens.
