Accessibility Statement

Last updated: October 14, 2026

LegiMatch wants everyone to be able to use its website and research app, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We consider LegiMatch partially conformant: most of it meets the standard, but we haven't yet confirmed every part, and some parts may not fully meet it (see "Known limitations" below).

What we do

  • Automated testing. Before each release we check our public pages, sign-in and sign-up screens with axe-core, an industry-standard accessibility checker, against WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules. We check them on both desktop and phone screen sizes.
  • Keyboard use. Menus, forms, dialogs and buttons are built to work with a keyboard, with visible focus.
  • Labels and structure. Form fields have labels that screen readers announce, and pages use headings and landmarks.
  • Color and text. Text color meets the WCAG AA contrast ratio, and information isn't shown by color alone. Good-law flags, for example, have a text label as well as a color. Pages work when zoomed to 200%.
  • Responsive layout. The site works on phones and tablets without horizontal scrolling.
  • Downloads. Research reports can be downloaded as Word documents, which work with most screen readers.

Known limitations

  • Court opinions are shown as the courts published them. Older opinions scanned from print may have formatting or text-recognition errors that affect screen readers.
  • Charts in judge analytics also show their numbers as text, but the charts themselves may not be fully described.
  • PDF downloads may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Use the Word download where possible.
  • Third-party pages for checkout and billing are run by our payment provider (Dodo Payments), and sign-in pages by Google. Their accessibility is outside our control.
  • Automated tools can't find every problem. Our in-app research screens are tested functionally, but haven't yet had a full manual review with assistive technology.

Feedback and help

If you have trouble using any part of LegiMatch, or need information in a different format, please tell us:

  • Email: [email protected] (please include "Accessibility" in the subject)
  • In the app: open the Research Librarian and choose "Talk to a person"

Please tell us the page, what you were trying to do and the assistive technology you use, if any. We aim to reply within 2 business days. Where we can, we'll help you get the information or complete the task another way while we work on a fix.
