Terms of Service

Effective date: October 15, 2026 Last updated: October 15, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and the owner of LegiMatch, a sole proprietorship based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India ("LegiMatch", "we", "us", "our"). They govern your use of the LegiMatch website at https://legimatch.com, our mobile applications, and related services (together, the "Service").

By creating an account, clicking "I agree", or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you are using the Service for a law firm or other organization, you confirm that you are authorized to bind that organization, and "you" includes that organization.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

Please read Section 14 carefully. It says that disputes are decided by an arbitrator in India, on an individual basis, and not by a jury or in a class action, and that claims must be brought within one year.

1. What the Service Does

1.1 LegiMatch is a legal research tool. It lets you upload or describe a matter and returns a list of previously decided, publicly available court decisions that may be similar. Each result comes with a similarity score ("Match Score"), a short explanation, and a link to the source text.

1.2 Court decisions in the Service come from public court records and public-domain sources. These include, for example, CourtListener (Free Law Project) and the Caselaw Access Project. We link to the official or source text wherever possible.

2. No Legal Advice

2.1 LegiMatch is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, legal opinions, or legal representation. No attorney–client relationship is created between you (or your clients) and LegiMatch.

2.2 The Service shows historical information about past decisions only. It does not:

  • (a) recommend any legal strategy, argument, or course of action;
  • (b) predict or guarantee the outcome of any matter; or
  • (c) replace the independent professional judgment of a licensed attorney.

2.3 The Match Score is a similarity indicator generated by software. It is not a probability of success, a measure of legal relevance, or an assessment of whether a decision is binding, current, or good law.

2.4 You are solely responsible for:

  • (a) reading and verifying every decision before relying on or citing it;
  • (b) confirming that a decision has not been reversed, overruled, vacated, or superseded; and
  • (c) all advice you give and all filings you make.

3. Eligibility and Accounts

3.1 The Service is intended only for:

  • (a) attorneys licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction;
  • (b) staff working under the direct supervision of a licensed attorney; and
  • (c) law students, academics, and researchers, for research purposes only.

It is not intended for members of the public seeking help with their own legal matters.

3.1A Professional use only. The Service is a business-to-business service. You agree that you use it in the course of your profession, business or academic work, and not as a consumer for personal, family or household purposes.

3.2 When you register, you must provide accurate information, including your bar admission details where requested. We may verify these details and may suspend accounts that we reasonably believe are ineligible.

3.3 You must be at least 18 years old.

3.4 Each account (a "Seat") is for one named individual. You may not share login credentials or let others use your Seat. An account may be signed in on up to two devices at a time. Signing in on another device signs out the oldest one. We may also sign out other devices when a sign-in comes from a different country, and we may suspend Seats we reasonably believe are being shared. You are responsible for all activity under your account, and you must tell us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.

3.5 Country of practice. Each account is tied to one supported country, chosen at signup. You will see case law for that country only. We may record the country you sign in from for security purposes.

3.6 Sign-in methods. You may sign in with email and password, Google, or Microsoft, and you may turn on two-factor authentication. Password resets use a one-time code sent to your email address. If your firm requires two-factor authentication or a specific sign-in provider, you must use it.

3.7 Firm accounts and sharing. A firm's owner may invite colleagues (within the firm's seats), assign roles, set security policies, and see members' usage. When you share a matter with your firm, colleagues can view (or, if you choose, edit) it, including the research, brief checks, notes and highlights it contains. You are responsible for sharing only with people who are allowed to see that client's information. If you are removed from a firm, you keep your account and your private work, but lose access to the firm's plan and shared matters.

3.8 Integrations. If you connect a third-party service (such as Clio), you authorize us to send it the documents you choose. Your use of that service is governed by its own terms.

4. AI-Generated Content

4.1 The Service uses artificial intelligence, including third-party large language models, to extract facts from your uploads, rank results, and generate explanations. AI output may be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date.

4.2 The Service is designed to return only decisions that exist in our database, with links to their source text. You must still verify all citations, quotations, and summaries against the source before use.

4.3 Our database may not include every decision from every court, and coverage varies by jurisdiction and time period. The absence of a result does not mean that no relevant authority exists.

4A. Research Librarian, brief checks and analytics

  • The Research Librarian is an automated research assistant. It finds and describes authority in our database and explains how to use the Service. It does not give legal advice, and its answers may be incomplete. A member of our team can take over a conversation at your request; our staff are not acting as your lawyers either.
  • Brief checks and good-law flags are based on later decisions within our coverage. A flag (or no flag) does not establish that an authority is or is not good law, and "not in coverage" does not mean a citation is wrong. You must verify every authority with an official source before relying on it.
  • Judge and court analytics are historical statistics from decisions in our database. They are not predictions of how any judge or court will rule.
  • Statute text is reproduced from official government sources and may not reflect the latest amendments.

5. Your Content and Client Confidentiality

5.1 "Your Content" means any documents, text, or information you upload or enter into the Service. You keep all rights to Your Content.

5.2 You give us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, process, and display Your Content only to provide the Service to you. This includes sending it to our subprocessors listed in our Privacy Policy.

5.3 We do not use Your Content to train artificial intelligence models, and we do not sell Your Content.

5.4 You are responsible for your professional obligations, including client confidentiality (for example, ABA Model Rule 1.6 and equivalent rules in your jurisdiction). Before uploading, consider whether to remove or anonymize client-identifying information. Do not upload information you are not permitted to share with a third-party service provider.

5.5 You confirm that you have all rights and consents needed to upload Your Content.

5.6 You can delete Your Content at any time from your account. Deleted content is removed from our active systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days, unless the law requires us to keep it.

6. Acceptable Use

You must not:

  • (a) scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or systematically extract data from the Service;
  • (b) resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties, or use it to build a competing product or dataset;
  • (c) reverse engineer the Service, or try to get around usage limits or security controls;
  • (d) use the Service to give legal advice to the public through automated means, or present its output as legal advice;
  • (e) upload malware or unlawful content, or content that infringes the rights of others;
  • (f) use the Service in violation of any law or of the professional conduct rules that apply to you;
  • (g) use the Service, or any information from it, to make decisions about a person's eligibility for employment, housing, credit, insurance, or any other purpose covered by the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) or similar laws. LegiMatch is not a consumer reporting agency and does not provide background checks;
  • (h) access the Service through bots, scripts, or AI agents acting on your behalf, other than the tools we provide (such as our Word add-in) or tools we approve in writing;
  • (i) use the Service or its output to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any artificial intelligence model;
  • (j) run benchmarks or accuracy tests of the Service for publication or for a competing product without our written permission; or
  • (k) use the Service if you are located in, or are a resident or national of, a country or region subject to comprehensive sanctions by the United States, India, or the United Nations, or if you are on a government list of restricted parties.

7. Subscriptions, Fees, and Payment

7.1 Plans. Paid plans are billed per Seat (per user) per month or per year, as shown on our pricing page at the time of purchase. Annual billing is charged once for twelve months, at the annual price shown (currently ten times the monthly price). A "research" means one submitted matter that produces one set of ranked results.

7.1A Promotional discounts. We may offer a discount for a limited time or to particular customers (for example through a promotion code). Its amount and duration are shown at checkout. Unless stated otherwise, a discount applies only to subscription fees (not top-ups), cannot be combined with other offers, ends when its stated period ends (after which the regular price applies), and does not continue if the subscription is cancelled and restarted. Ending a promotion does not affect discounts already granted.

7.2 Unlimited research and AI credits. Research, brief checks and the other features of your plan are unlimited for normal use by the one attorney who holds the Seat. Each plan also includes a monthly allowance of AI credits per Seat (Free Trial: 10 for the trial; Solo: 100 per month; Professional and Firm: 300 per Seat per month), which power AI-assisted features: 1 AI credit for an AI-powered research and 5 AI credits for Deep Analysis. When your AI credits run out, research continues with standard matching (without AI ranking or AI-written explanations) until your allowance renews or you buy a top-up. On annual billing the allowance is still given each month. AI credits belong to one Seat and cannot be shared, pooled, transferred, or exchanged for cash. Unused plan AI credits expire at the end of each monthly credit period.

7.2B Fair use. "Unlimited" covers the volume of research a practicing attorney does in the ordinary course of their work. Automated or scripted access, scraping, bulk downloading, reselling, or use on behalf of people who don't hold a Seat is not allowed. If your use goes far beyond that, we may contact you, apply reasonable rate limits, or suspend access under these Terms.

7.2A Top-ups. You may buy additional AI credit packs. Top-up AI credits expire at the end of the plan period in which they are purchased (for trials, at the end of the trial). Top-ups need an active plan or trial. AI credits are added once payment is confirmed. If a research fails because of an error on our side, or our AI is unavailable during it, its AI credits are refunded automatically.

7.3 Payment processing. Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record for your purchase. Dodo Payments' terms also apply to your payment. Prices, including top-up prices, are in US dollars. Applicable sales taxes are calculated and collected by the merchant of record. If a payment fails, we may suspend paid features until it is paid. If you dispute a charge with your bank (a "chargeback") instead of contacting us first, we may suspend your account while the dispute is open. Please contact [email protected] first; we will try to resolve it quickly.

7.4 Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any price increase for your plan. For annual plans, we will also remind you about 30 days before each renewal.

7.5 Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then.

7.6 Refunds. Because you can try the Service free first, payments are non-refundable, except for billing errors, a technical problem on our side that we couldn't fix in reasonable time, or where the law requires. Asking for a refund also cancels your next renewal. The details are in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

7.7 Free trials. Free trials last for the period stated at signup (currently 14 days with unlimited research and 10 AI credits) and need no payment card. Entering your card and paying for a plan during the trial ends the trial and starts the paid plan immediately, with your billing date starting that day. If you don't buy a plan, your trial access ends when the trial ends, and you are not charged.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 The Service, including its software, design, rankings, summaries, Match Scores, and compilations, is owned by LegiMatch or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws.

8.2 The underlying court decisions are public records. Nothing in these Terms restricts your rights to public-domain material that you obtain independently.

8.3 You may use the output of the Service in your own legal work, including memos and filings. You may not republish our summaries, explanations, or compilations as a database or a product.

8.4 If you send us feedback, we may use it freely, without any obligation to you.

9. Service Availability and Changes

We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, add, or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces a paid feature, we will give you notice, and you may cancel and receive a pro-rated refund for the unused prepaid period.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". To the fullest extent permitted by law, LegiMatch disclaims all warranties, express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will identify all relevant authorities, that Match Scores are accurate, or that any decision remains good law.

11. Limitation of Liability

11.1 To the fullest extent permitted by law, LegiMatch will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. This includes loss of profits, revenue, clients, cases, or data, and any adverse outcome in any legal matter, even if we were advised that such damage was possible.

11.2 LegiMatch's total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or US $100, whichever is greater.

11.3 Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.

12. Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify LegiMatch against third-party claims (including claims by your clients) arising from:

  • (a) your use of the Service or its output;
  • (b) Your Content; or
  • (c) your breach of these Terms or of your professional obligations.

13. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or end your access if:

  • you breach these Terms;
  • you are not eligible under Section 3;
  • your payment fails; or
  • we must do so to comply with law.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time.

Getting your data. When your plan ends, your account stays readable so you can download your research and reports. If we close your account (other than for a serious breach or a legal requirement), we will give you at least 30 days to download Your Content first, where we reasonably can.

Sections 2, 4, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15 continue to apply after termination.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

14.1 Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

14.2 Talk to us first. Before starting any formal claim, please email [email protected] with a description of the problem and what you want. We will both try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days.

14.3 Arbitration. If it isn't resolved, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be finally decided by binding arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, administered by the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration (MCIA) under its rules in force at the time. There will be one arbitrator, chosen jointly by both parties or, if we can't agree within 30 days, appointed by that institution. Neither party alone chooses the arbitrator. The seat of arbitration is Coimbatore, India. The arbitration will be in English and, unless the arbitrator decides otherwise, will take place online by video conference and written submissions, so neither party needs to travel.

14.4 Individual claims only (no class actions). Disputes will be decided only on an individual basis. You and we each give up the right to bring or take part in a class action, collective action, or representative proceeding, and the arbitrator may not combine claims of different customers.

14.5 No jury. To the extent any dispute is heard in a court, you and we each give up the right to a trial by jury.

14.6 Small claims. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in a small-claims court where it qualifies, as long as it stays an individual claim.

14.7 Time limit for claims. To the extent the law allows, any claim must be started within one (1) year after the facts giving rise to it first arose. After that, it is permanently barred.

14.8 Courts. The courts at Coimbatore, India have exclusive jurisdiction over matters that the Arbitration and Conciliation Act leaves to courts (such as supporting or reviewing an arbitration). Either party may seek urgent interim relief, or relief to protect its intellectual property or confidential information, from any competent court.

15. General

15.1 Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms. For material changes, we will notify you by email or in the app at least 30 days in advance. If you don't agree with a change, you may cancel before it takes effect and receive a pro-rated refund of any prepaid fees for the unused period. If you continue to use the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms. Changes to Section 14 apply only to disputes that arise after the change takes effect.

15.2 Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Refund & Cancellation Policy, and Disclaimer, are the entire agreement between you and us.

15.3 Assignment. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent. We may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

15.4 Severability and waiver. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. If we fail to enforce a provision, that is not a waiver.

15.5 Force majeure. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.

15.6 Independent parties. You and we are independent contractors. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, agency, employment or attorney-client relationship.

15.7 Language. These Terms are written in English. Any translation is for convenience only; the English version controls.
